Our mission is to be an expression of abundance,
spiritual connection and stewardship…a
community of people committed to growing
healthy food and sustaining a prosperous green
model for generations to come.
Our vision is to re-cultivate the legacy of the
Fillmore ecological footprint at Unity Village.
The Gardens at Unity Village emerged from a vision in late 2008
as some 30 people gathered to promote the idea. The vision took
form after an ad hoc committee developed a business plan and a
working agreement with Unity Village. By late summer, 2009 a
lease was signed and The Gardens at Unity Village was chartered
as a 501c(3) not for profit organization.
The impetus for all this was a desire to create an enterprise that
would bridge the magnificence of the former Unity Farm (a once
vibrant orchard and produce farm)
with a 21st century, eco-friendly,
“Learning Garden.” Hence —The
Gardens at Unity Village.
From the beginning the operating
philosophy has been to
demonstrate and model the
benefits of growing fruit, herbs
and vegetables locally and
naturally. Thanks to a donated
high tunnel “hoop house”, two acres of garden, two acres of
orchard and a host of volunteers, that is precisely what has been
happening for fourteen years.
