The Gardens are managed by a working Board of Directors who,
along with other volunteers, oversee the operational functions of
the organization.
Our Saturday morning Market Stand has become a hub of activity
as customers come to buy fresh food and “hang out”, exchanging
ideas with like-minded folks.
At the Market Stand, which is
an important funding
mechanism for The Gardens,
we provide food samples and
free recipes.
Additionally an
expanded workshop schedule
offers opportunities to learn
about a range of topics
including stewardship
(recycling, re-purposing, reusing), raw food preparation, bee
keeping and growing techniques.
Perhaps our highest profile event is our annual Apple Butter
Festival, a day in the fall when we gather our greater
community and produce our
signature product—The Gardens at
Unity Village smoky, flavorful
apple butter. Early Saturday morning
several fire pits are lit and the cooking of apples in large copper
kettles commences. By mid-afternoon we’re canning and then
labeling the final product. People from all over tell us it’s the
best apple butter they’ve ever tasted!
Our vision is to re-cultivate the legacy of the
Fillmore ecological footprint at Unity Village.
